CTAB® GUIDELINES
OBJECTIVES
To identify professionals with acceptable knowledge of the principles and practices of testing-adjusting-balancing (TAB) through eligibility requirements and examination.
To award special recognition to testing-adjusting-balancing professionals who have demonstrated a high level of competence.
To encourage testing-adjusting-balancing professionals to continue their education through professional activities.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Certification is based on education, HVAC Testing-Adjusting-Balancing (TAB) work experience, and passing the CTAB Examination.
Education and Experience:
A four year engineering degree with one year in HVAC TAB, or A four year degree with two years in HVAC TAB, or A two year HVAC or related technical degree with two years in HVAC TAB or Three years field, managerial or engineering employment in HVAC TAB
CTAB EXAMINATION
To aid candidates in preparing for the examination Sugarman Consulting provides a study guide with suggested reference materials and sample exam questions. The examination will be administered by Sugarman Consulting.
Applicants must complete the written Exam. Dates and locations are determined by Sugarman Consulting. Examination questions are based on concepts and experiences basic to testing-adjusting-balancing. Questions are multiple choice and true/false. Exam is open book.
Pass rate is 70%. Examination scores are kept on file for a period of three years. Applicants that pass the Exam but do not receive certification status based on education or experience can request that their applications be resubmitted to the CTAB Board, if during that three-year period their education or experience level increases.

CTAB APPLICATION
The Application provides an organized method for documenting professional and educational background. Applicants are requested to list on the Application all pertinent information in these categories for evaluation by the CTAB Board. It is essential that applicants devote time and effort to completing the Application since certification by the CTAB Board can be based only on the information provided.
The Application form is divided into Education and Experience in testing-adjusting-balancing. The CTAB Board must have a clear understanding of the applicant’s experience. Should applicants have doubts about their work experience prerequisite for certification, they can have their Application reviewed by the CTAB Board prior to taking the Exam. The effective practice of testing-adjusting-balancing requires an in-depth knowledge of a wide variety of subjects. However, the candidate need only demonstrate to the satisfaction of the CTAB Board the knowledge and ability to apply the essentials of testing-adjusting-balancing. It is therefore important that all applicants give clear and complete details concerning education and testing-adjusting-balancing experience. Inaccurate or incomplete data may be detrimental to the applicant.
CERTIFICATION PROCESS
After passing Exam the Application is sent to the CTAB Board. The Board reviews the Application and gives final approval for certification status.
MAINTAINING CERTIFICATION
Continuing education of professionals is essential. Therefore, to remain CTAB Certification every Certified Testing-Adjusting-Balancing Professional must accumulate six professional credits every three years and submit a re-certification form.
Professional credits for re-certification can be accumulated any time from the date of certification to certification expiration.

CERTIFICATION SUSPENSION
CTAB professionals who do not submit a re-certification form or acquire sufficient professional credits to be re-certified by certificate expiration date will be notified in writing of suspension from using the CTAB designation.
USE OF CTAB DESIGNATION
A Certified Testing-Adjusting-Balancing Professional may use the CTAB designation with name on company or organization letterheads, business cards, and all forms of address. Certification is for individuals only. The CTAB designation may not be used to imply that a company or organization is certified.

Examination and CTAB certification fee: $300.00 (Included with Self-Study Course, Seminar or Workshop
Re-examination fee $100.00
Three-year Certification renewal fee $300.00
